Revisiting Childhood Feasts

Way back during the first lockdown in 2020 I, like many, had much time for reflection and where my businesses were going given all that I offer required the need for touch and taste and real-world contact. I pondered on why Come to Good had evolved the way it had and how we can make a difference in challenging times. I reflected on where I’ve come from, what I do and why I do it.

I realised how proud I am to be the daughter of an immigrant NHS nurse and a British father. One of many children of Filipino’s who were first recruited by the NHS in the early 70’s and who’ve dedicated their lives to the NHS and other care work. With them they bought a food culture of sharing, feasting and community that absolutely informs what I do now. I’m sure many an NHS worker can recount a tale of a Filipino colleague bringing in curious and delicious dishes to share at work?

And so I was left wondering how to celebrate this upbringing, these amazing NHS mothers and fathers, many disproportionately affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. In true Filipino style the way I knew how to do this was through food. So I have started gathering recipes and stories from my fellow filipino diaspora family to create something to share. Whilst this is still in progress the idea of interviewing some of these ‘family’ members began to grow and the Delicious Nourishment Podcast was born.

For this inaugural episode I will soon speak to an old friend, a ‘cousin’ or ‘brother’ of my youth for whom I know the spirit of sharing and feasting also informs what he does now. Watch this space for chit chat, taglish, recipes and a cook-a-long soon….
